Okay, so the results look great, but how long does CoolSculpting last?
How CoolSculpting Works
CoolSculpting works by using very cold temperatures to freeze fat cells without damaging surrounding tissue. Those frozen fat cells are dead. Kaput. Finito. The dead cells still there temporarily, in your arms, your chin, your thighs, you belly – which is why you won’t see immediate results from CoolSculpting. Like all dead cells, they are slowly removed through your body’s natural processes. Once the dead fat cells are out of the body, those cells don’t come back. There is no risk of fat cells sneaking back into your thighs while you’re sleeping, but there a few more things you should know.
CoolSculpting Permanently Destroys Fat Cells and Improves Body Proportions
The fat cell destruction caused by CoolSculpting is permanent, but just because we’ve eliminated some fat cells, that doesn’t mean you’re suddenly impervious to weight gain. CoolSculpting eliminates about 20-25% of the fat cells in an area. There are (and will always be) residual fat cells in the area. When you lose weight, those fat cells shrink. When you gain weight, those fat cells grow. So even though we’ve eliminated a lot of fat cells in the area that received a CoolSculpting treatment, that doesn’t mean that area can’t increase in size. Everyone stores fat in different places, so it’s possible that if you gain 10 pounds, some of it may go to the area you just CoolSculpted. But the good news is, even if you do gain weight, the area treated by CoolSculpting will be smaller in comparison to the rest of your body. This means you will always be in better “proportion” than you were before CoolSculpting.
Maintenance is Key for Long-Lasting CoolSculpting Results
Is CoolSculpting permanent? Yes. CoolSculpting is permanent as long as you stay near or below your treatment day body weight. The results aren’t a mirage or a temporary fix (like body wraps that only remove water weight). CoolSculpting kills fat cells, and those fat cells are gone forever. But if you don’t maintain your figure, the remaining fat cells can increase in size. That’s why CoolSculpting is ideal for clients who are within 40 pounds of their ideal weight. It’s designed to address specific areas of stubborn fat that won’t go away with diet or exercise. (Are You a Candidate?)
