CoolSculpting the Male Chest

A lot of people think CoolSculpting is something only women do — an understandable assumption when you consider that many of the national ads feature women in swimsuits. But in reality, men are just as likely to have CoolSculpting performed as women, though not necessarily in the same treatment areas.

While women are oftentimes plagued by excess thigh, upper arm, and buttock fat, the trouble spots men experience are different. The most common male treatment areas we work with at DaVinci Body Sculpting are the abdomen and chest — specifically, the infamous “man boobs.”

CoolSculpting can help kill some of the fat cells in your chest area that may be giving you the appearance of “man boobs.” However, CoolSculpting cannot solve all possible bulges in this treatment area and may not be suitable treatment for all circumstances.

Here’s everything you need to know about CoolSculpting the male chest.

Am I a Candidate for Male Chest CoolSculpting?

The ideal CoolSculpting candidate is reasonably close to their goal weight, lives a healthy lifestyle with consistent diet and exercise, and has every intention of continuing to live in such a manner. However, they have trouble areas they can’t manage to sculpt to their liking.

Of course, this is a common problem. No matter how hard we work, no matter how many calories cut or burned, we all have an area (or two) we’re just not thrilled with, and that’s where CoolSculpting can be incorporated to help us achieve our goals.

Because CoolSculpting kills fat cells, the procedure can help you get closer to the sculpted chest you’ve always wanted. However, CoolSculpting won’t kill all your fat cells in any given area, so it’s important that candidates maintain their diet — otherwise, the remaining fat cells will expand (you’ll gain weight) and any results you experienced after the procedure will go entirely unnoticed.

It’s also important to note that not all fat cells are created equal when it comes to CoolSculpting.

The cryolipolysis procedure is only effective at killing subcutaneous fat cells — the ones that lie just beneath the surface of the skin. While these types of fat cells can exist on any area of the body, each FDA-cleared treatment area presents different issues that we must assess prior to recommending the procedure to any potential client.

For the male chest area, there are two prominent types of tissue present that can create a doughy appearance: gynecomastia (which is glandular and creates the true “man boob” effect) and pseudo gynecomastia (which is simply fat).

It’s important for us to determine which type of tissue is on your chest because CoolSculpting is only effective at killing fat cells — the pseudo gynecomastia. In fact, this will be the first thing we look at during your consultation. CoolSculpting will have no effect whatsoever on glandular tissue.

To be clear, all men have both types of tissue, but the glandular tissue is typically in a thin layer and is unnoticeable in many cases.

What Causes Man Boobs?

Gynecomastia is the clinical term for “man boobs.” It simply means the breast tissue is swollen or enlarged because of hormone imbalances. In this case, the man would have too much estrogen and not enough testosterone to balance it out.

This sometimes happens with newborn boys, as well as those going through puberty and the elderly. Of course, these are all times when hormones are adjusting to new levels and are more likely to get out of whack.

People often think of estrogen as a hormone only women produce, but men always have a bit of estrogen in their bodies, just as women always have some testosterone. Under normal circumstances, the levels of estrogen in men doesn’t cause any physical changes.

Gynecomastia not usually a serious health problem, but is often embarrassing for those experiencing it and can be difficult for men to deal with psychologically. Gynecomastia can resolve itself when estrogen and testosterone levels return to normal, but medical intervention may be necessary in some cases.

Aside from natural hormonal changes, gynecomastia can be caused by medications, such as anti-androgens (like those used to treat hair loss and some prostate conditions), chemotherapy, anabolic steroids, some anti-anxiety medications, and some heart medications.

If your doctor believes your gynecomastia is caused by medication you’re taking, he or she may recommend you stop, but only if doing so is not a hazard to your health (such as in the case of chemotherapy for cancer treatment).

In addition, multiple medical conditions can cause gynecomastia, such as hypogonadism, some types of tumors, hypothyroidism, and liver or kidney failure.

If you are experiencing gynecomastia, schedule an appointment with your primary care physician so he or she can do a physical assessment and run some tests to determine the cause.

Consultation: True Gynecomastia vs. Pseudo Gynecomastia

During your consultation, we’ll be examining the type of tissue on your chest to determine if it’s glandular (true gynecomastia) or fatty (pseudo gynecomastia). This is done in the office through a pain-free physical exam.

If we determine that the excess tissue on your chest is glandular (true gynecomastia) we’ll refer you to your primary care physician (or a specialist you’ve been seeing for the condition already) for further instruction on how to reduce and treat the gynecomastia.

If we determine the excess tissue is fatty, we may be able to recommend CoolSculpting for your chest. This will depend on many factors, including the amount of subcutaneous fat you’d like to freeze, the thickness of the fat layer, and what your goals are.

As previously stated, the ideal CoolSculpting candidate is close to their goal weight. The reason for this is that results will be the most noticeable at that point. If you’re still 30, 40, or 50 pounds away from that goal, the fat cells remaining will end up disguising any results you were hoping to see.

During your consultation (and assuming no one is currently receiving treatment in it), we’ll give you a tour of our exclusive man cave, an upscale spa-like environment featuring three flat-screen TVs so you can catch up on sports, the news, or watch a movie — all while you drink a complimentary cocktail.

Once you decide to book your first CoolSculpting session, we’ll take your “before” photos so we have a good base for comparison as your treatments progress, and conclude. People don’t usually love taking these photos, but they really are the best way to measure results and we’re confident you’ll be happier taking your “after” photos.

CoolSculpting Male Chest: Cost/Price

At DaVinci Body Sculpting, we understand that the cost of CoolSculpting your chest (or any other treatment area) is one of the biggest factors in your decision. As such, we often get feedback from potential clients saying they wish they could get our prices online.

While we like to be as transparent as possible, giving accurate prices over the phone or on the website is simply impossible. Each client has different goals, different amounts of fat, and may require a different number of applicators.

In order for us to give men an accurate estimate to CoolSculpt their chests, we need to see them and assess their unique situation. It may seem like a ploy to get you in the door so we can convince you to proceed with the procedure, but we truly prefer to make sure you understand what you can expect from CoolSculpting and make sure that you’re a good candidate in the first place.

Believe it or not, we’ve actually turned away potential clients in the past who weren’t good candidates, in addition to recommending fewer treatment areas be done at once (to see how the first treatment area reshaped the client’s body). We are constantly striving to provide the best CoolSculpting experience in Houston — and to us, that means recommending what’s in our clients’ best interests.

To help our clients achieve their DaVinci Body, we often offer special pricing for those who attend information sessions at our facility to learn more about CoolSculpting. In addition, we typically offer monthly specials, and multi-applicator, or multi-sessions discounts. Make sure to ask about these discounts during your consultation.

CoolSculpting Male Chest Reviews

CoolSculpting performed on the male chest requires little-to-no downtime and oftentimes comes with very mild side effects (coldness and numbness in the treatment area during the procedure). We receive overwhelmingly positive reviews from our clients, regardless of the treatment area. You can read reviews from actual DaVinci Body Sculpting clients here.
